Your Dog Breed can be a Source of Worry

Homeowners and home renters often find it difficult getting insurance when they have some risky breeds of dogs. It does not matter whether such breeds of dogs have any records of aggressiveness or not , but the negative media attention on dog breeds such as Pitt bull garner has forced insurance companies to have a re-think when it comes to providing owners of such dogs with Home insurance cover. Not that these insurance companies hate these dog breeds but they don't want to get caught up in incessant law suits by victims of dog attacks at your home.

Home owners and renters will be greatly challenged when searching for insurance cover especially with the types of dogs they keep. When insurance companies turn you down because of your potentially dangerous dog , then you will have to find insurance companies that will provide such cover and in most cases they are more expensive. Some companies will provide such insurance cover but at higher premiums. If you try to play smart on your insurance company by not declaring a new dog in your home, you insurance company will likely deny any claims you make in the future. When insurance companies deny your claims, you could be exposed to a number of liability problems that could cost you a huge financial set back running into thousands of dollars.

Of course, the rules on which dogs an insurance company will cover and which they won't vary from company to company and some companies will cover almost any dog. But as a general rule, insurance companies tend to resist covering these types of dog breeds most often. They include Pit Bulls, Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers, Chows and Wolf-hybrids.

In order to avoid any form of confrontation with your insurance company, you need to inform it about the type of dog breed you are contemplating to buy. If you are considering a rescue dog, check whether it has been abused before or has a history of attacking people. Remember , your coverage will drastically drop once a dog attacks someone within your home or property , in addition to this, you will naturally find it more difficult to secure an insurance coverage in the nearest future if the dog attack issues in your home were not resolved.

You have to think twice before getting a dog with some negative records of physical attacks on people. There is no intention here whatsoever to discourage you from buying your favourite breed of dog but it is also important that you consult with your insurance company before making a final decision. If your insurance company will not accept to provide an insurance coverage based on your particular breed of dog , then you will need to look out for another insurance company but you must keep in mind that it costs more to insure the more aggressive and more dangerous breeds of dogs.
